  • Homebuyer Education: A Place of Your Own

    Agency: Iowa State University Extension and Outreach

    Offers an educational course on home buying for those looking to become more knowledgeable in purchasing a new home. Lessons focus on preparing for home ownership, shopping for a home, securing a mortgage, closing the loan, and being a home owner. Upon completion of the lessons, individuals may earn a homebuyer's certificate to take to your local lender.

    • Earn a homebuyer’s certificate
      Completing all six lessons and taking/passing the final test earns a homebuyer’s certificate. Many home loan programs require completion of a homebuyer course to qualify for a loan.
      • Individuals may take the final test as many times as needed—until achieving a passing score, at no additional charge. No two test will be the same because the list of questions is randomly selected for each test. After passing the test, printable certificates will be available.
    • May access the course any time of day from any computer with Internet access.
